Medications to treat Narcolepsy

The most common medications to treat Narcolepsy are fairly well known. They would be Provigil, Nuvigil, and Xyrem. There are however several other medications that are on the market that can be used to treat narcolepsy and narcolepsy with cataplexy. Furthermore, there is a medication that’s currently in development that’s showing incredible promise. Below I will outline a comprehensive list of medications used to treat N/C and N without it. In addition to the current medications used to treat narcolepsy, I will touch upon Soliriamfetol the new treatment for narcolepsy.

The process in order to get prescribed medications to treat narcolepsy is fairly straightforward. First, you need to find a sleep specialist. Next, get your MSLT or multiple sleep latency test to get properly diagnosed. Then once you complete your test you need a physician to properly interpret the results and officially diagnose you with narcolepsy. All of the medications used to treat narcolepsy are controlled substances, you can’t simply walk into a Walgreens to purchase the medication.

The Right Narcolepsy Medication for you

Like I mentioned before, there is no best narcolepsy medication. However, there is a narcolepsy medication that is best for you. Perhaps, that’s no medication at all, maybe Provigil will offer you the most relief from your EDS than any other form of treatment out there.

I can’t tell you exactly which meds to try. You need to go on that journey yourself. But what I can tell you is to try, experiment, don’t give up on finding what works best for you.
