Natural remedies for narcolepsy can be quite a vague sentence. Not sure what I mean by natural remedies? Let’s first define it then. I consider natural ways to treat narcolepsy to be simply treating narcolepsy without medication. This could be light exposure, diet, supplements, and more.

Types of Natural Remedies for Narcolepsy
Treating Narcolepsy Without Medication
Let’s talk about Nutrition. In regards to treating narcolepsy without medication, there is no one key diet I would recommend for narcolepsy. There are however a few key diets I would highly recommend trying. They center around this one key principle: eliminate sugar from your diet. Most people are aware of the sugar-laden foods that are out there: candy, ice cream, soda. But what you might not know is that sugar is also in more common foods in the standard American diet. Sugar can be found in bread, pasta, and juice. I wrote a free ebook on my suggested dietary guidelines for this sleeping disorder. Enter your email below to receive it. Unfortunately, there are no natural cures for narcolepsy, but I found diet to be the closest thing to a cure.
In addition to adhering to one of the three diets I suggested in the ebook; Ketogenic diet, Whole Foods diet, and the Slow Carb diet. I high recommend drastically reducing your caffeine intake. The effects of caffeine are incredibly pronounced in people who have narcolepsy. That quick spike is almost always proceeded by a drop. Sometimes the only way to deal with that dip is a nap.
Supplementation for people with Narcolepsy
I use a handful of supplements every day to help my general health, but more specifically to help alleviate the symptoms of my narcolepsy.
Daily Greens – I take one healthy scoop of this every single morning. This is more of a general health thing than a specific treatment for my narcolepsy.
Brain Health Supplements
Fish Oil – Making sure you consume enough healthy fats is an essential step to keeping a healthy brain. Our brains are already running at a deficit seeing that we can’t properly produce hypocretin. It’s imperative to take care of your brain if you have narcolepsy.
Udo’s Choice Oil – Is another product that promotes a healthy brain. Couldn’t recommend this one enough.
Sleep Hygiene for Narcoleptics
The healthy sleep trend has finally hit America! Every other day I feel like I hear about a book that promotes healthy sleep habits. Healthy sleep hygiene consists of crafting the right environment for sleep, allowing yourself to get enough hours, preparing correctly for sleep, and more. My favorite book on sleep is Sleep Smarter. For a comprehensive guide on what a healthy sleep regimen looks like, please check out that book.
Out of all elements of sleep hygiene, beyond regimenting your sleep schedule. I’ve found that finding the right mattress for yourself to be the most impactful. I swear by Casper Mattress. Couldn’t recommend them enough.
Optimizing your Brain Health
What’s the most important muscle in your body? I’ll give you a hint; it’s the one that allows you to process what I’m writing. That’s right! Your brain, hands down the most important organ in your body that needs to be taken care of. Did you know there are things you can do to increase its performance? Are you aware of the fact that certain diets promote a healthy brain and other’s are detrimental to its performance? Read more about cognitive health from this book: The Ultramind Solution.
